Hesepe - Hopsten, Germany

Target Category: Airfield -
Constructed in 1938. In the years between 1939 and 1944, the base was used only for short periods by different day and night fighter units as well as various bomber wings. From fall of 1944 onwards, Hopsten AB became a hub for Air Force activity with the testing of aircraft such as the Bf 109, Bf 110, Heinkel He 111, He 219 and Focke Wulf 190 as well as the Arado Ar234 and Messerschmitt Me 262 jets. Towards the end of the war Hopsten was a frequent target for Allied air raids. But due to the extremely heavy air defense and constant repair of the runways, it remained relatively intact. In the last days of the war, German units destroyed the infrastructure and made the airfield useless. On 6 April 1945, the British captured the field. http://www.etnp.de/Seite46-Geschichte-UK/Seite46-Geschichte-UK.htm
